I purchased a sampler box of Don Pepin's while at CigarFest and I have a question for those who know these cigars. Is it normal for these cigars to have burn problems? It seems that almost all of the sticks in this sampler have had burn problem requiring frequent touch ups. This has been across the board. It doesn't matter which stick (it came with 4 different styles) I light the same thing happens. Has anyone else have issues with these cigars?

Pepin is like ISOMs. Keep the humidity under 65%

I normally keep my sticks at 68/72. Is that too moist?

I like mine between 65-68, personally I think 72 is a bit high though I am sure others may disagree.

I know for a fact that CAO keeps their warehouse at 69% so who's right? I defer to wiser minds then my own.

From what I have heard many warehouses keep them a bit higher for shipping purposes. Kind of makes sense, if you keep them in a higher level you don't have to worry about them drying out as much when you ship them. You can pretty much ship anywhere in the continental US in five days or less. I usually receive anything I order in three days or less.

"Proper" humidification really comes down to personal preference, so when it comes down to it, everyone's right about the right humidity! Well, within a certain range, anyway. As proof, I offer the Boveda humidification system: they sell products designed to keep your humidor at one of three different humidity levels depending on your preference. I have personally not used this, but I have a friend who does and has been well-pleased with the results.

Oh, and as far as the Pepins go, I've smoked at least 10 or 12 and never had any burn issues to speak of.

It's just me. I just burned a Gurkha Black Puro and the same thing just happened. It ran up one side and I had to touch it up 3-4 times before I gave up. Maybe it's just me.............(don't say it guys, I already know)

Gurkha's are a whole different story. I find most of the have issues either with the burn or the wrapper just exploding. But have also heard the Gurkhas from CI are not as good quality as those you get from your B&M.

I know how you feel, Stogie. I had a cigar plug up on me at an event once; the rep told me "You're smoking it wrong." After I picked my jaw up off the floor, he said he was kidding and swapped the bum stick for a new one. Smoking it wrong...wise ass!

Myself either. I would think you risk ruining any following you may have. I know myself I will not purchase any Gurkha cigars.

Stogie,

Storage is best between 65 and 70, but for smoking I have found that under 65 is ideal. Take a spare 20 ct humi and create a dry box to put sticks in about a day before smoking.

This is too hard for me to plan, so I just keep the whole humi at 65.

I bought the same sampler package and haven't had an issue with any of them. I have 2 left!

I did take them out of the plastic bundle wrap and let them sit in the humidor.
