Picked a churchill up at Woody's a coupla months ago for almost $9 on the hype that it was the same blend as the elusive Edge Sumatra. After letting it sit and smoking many other things, I finally tried it last night.

The first puffs were nutty - no doubt from the wrapper. The cigar soon offered up a sweet, creamy, and sometimes woody flavor that developed well. For the 2nd half of this 2 hour cigar, the woody flavor came front and center and the sweet, creamy character faded to the background. To the very nub, this cigar never tasted anything but elegant and refined.

These cigars seem to be rolled looser and softer than most, but it hit well and never got harsh, even when I got greedy with my tokes and triple-hit the thing.

I'd love to try more. With consistency, I'd put this in RP's top 3.

It was a good cigar as an Edge but I can't accept repackaged products for more money. Nice for them, sucks for the consumer.

I still have a dozen RP Edge Sumatra's left. I brought one to the RP event at Uptowns this summer and we compared wrappers. I thought they looked different. They do taste totally different. I like the Renaissance but it's not the sumatra edge.

Right. Anyone know why they never went full steam with the Edge Sumatra? It seems like it would have been a great smoke.

P.S.: Anyone got a few Edge Sumatries they might want to trade?

I have smoked a few of these and have enjoyed each one.

Finally tried an Edge Sumatra today. It was, well, an Edge with a (Ecuador?) Sumatra wrapper. No where near as wonderful as the expensive Renaissance - I actually found them to be quite different. Edges are good everyday cigars, whereas the Renaissance is more of a special occasion thing.

Hardly ever smoke RP smokes (except a Decade once in a while), but I bought a couple of toros for something different.

Good smoke. Unruly burn and soft ash, though I've only had them for a few weeks. Wood and spice with cherry and cream around the edges. Definitely NOT the Edge Sumatra, but good change of pace.

Still not an RP fan, but this was nice.
